Beat cancer with MarMar Copenhagen

“The doctors think I have cancer” were the words that tried to find their way from the phone and into my consciousness. Unfortunately, I have already tried it several times and I am not alone. 1 in three is affected by cancer and 2 in three get cancer close to life as a relative. This means that we, almost all of us, get cancer close to life, at some point or another. Common to everyone is a crazy experience that turns life upside down. The voice on the phone was once my mother and the other time my sister, both of whom have been through cancer. The uncertainty, fear and all the other emotions are a completely paralyzing experience. Minutes can feel like days, so even the shortest waiting time becomes long and both the patient and the relatives can feel powerless.

Fortunately, both my mother and my sister are well again and fortunately this is the case for many. The massive effort in this area ensures rapid diagnosis, treatment and much higher survival. The continued effort in this area is important so that we become even better at detecting, curing and ensuring the best possible course of the disease.

Beating cancer is a cause close to my heart and that is why MarMar Copenhagen is again donating DKK 50,000 this year to the Beat Cancer fundraiser.

I send hope and my strongest, bravest thoughts to those of you who have cancer close to your heart.
