Children's Day is UNICEF's annual day where we celebrate Children's Day. November 20th is the day when extra focus is placed on the rights that all the world's children have. I think we should take good care of all the world's children, today and every day!

My twins

We ourselves needed baby clothes in extra small sizes 17 years ago today, November 20th, because that's when our twin girls were born, 5 weeks before their due date.

We knew they would probably come before term – I actually hoped so too, it was hard carrying the two of them towards the end! Everything was different from my first pregnancy 3½ years earlier. I never thought I would have twins, there are no twins in my family.

As a second time mother, I felt like I knew everything and was definitely relaxed about going to the midwife alone… until she found the second heartbeat. It was crazy to call my husband and tell him we were having twins… ha ha our lives really turned upside down that day and of course even more so when the girls arrived.

My girls needed baby clothes in size 44

The girls were so pretty and so small, especially compared to our son who was 57 cm and 3950 gr., he skipped all sizes before 62. The first three days the girls and I did so well – I felt like a superhero! But then they started losing weight and had to be fed by a tube. One of our girls came under 2 kg. The superhero feeling disappeared completely and worry took over – those were some really long days… Fortunately, things turned around and after 10 days the girls were ready to go home. The following weeks are quite hazy in my memory, it was all about food, sleep and trying to make sense of it all.

MarMar is once again donating baby clothes from size 44 to the country's Neonatal Departments.

Clothes for premature babies

Everything was super oversized on my girls, there wasn't a particularly large selection of clothes for such small babies, especially not back then. It was obvious to make delicious MarMar Copenhagen clothes in very small sizes. So we took our popular Modal quality, in organic GOTS certified cotton and Lenzing Tencel, knitted it in stockinette and made a selection of classic, usable styles from size 44.

Over the past few years, MarMar Copenhagen has donated clothes for premature babies around the Danish neonatal wards and it gives me great joy to know that we are giving a helping hand to someone who needs it. We are celebrating Children's Day by donating again to four neonatal wards in Denmark.
