Responsibility

Enjoy & appreciate your clothes

“Make an effort and make a difference” That is my mantra and the philosophy behind MarMar Copenhagen, says Marlene Holmboe, founder and designer of the popular children's clothing brand MarMar Copenhagen. “We always make an effort and strive to become even better at what we do.”

Ever since MarMar Copenhagen was founded in 2007, the goal has been to create children's clothing that is long-lasting. This also means thinking through all the processes in detail and making a difference with the big picture in mind.

We focus on our ethical standards as a company and work to minimize our environmental impact. It is always the big picture at MarMar Copenhagen with both the planet and children, both present and future, in mind – and in our hearts.

Throughout the production chain, there are people behind every process. Farmers, yarn spinners, weavers and knitters, those who dye and print, those who cut and sew. There are people behind every process, all working hand in hand to create every piece of clothing. With that in mind, every garment is unique and one-of-a-kind. It is something to cherish and take care of in the best possible way.

Our products are long-lasting, both in quality, design and colors. They can be passed on and used again and again across seasons.

The collections

The foundation of MarMar Copenhagen is our always-available Essentials collection. The best timeless basics, used and loved by children for years.

Some styles have been around since we launched our first collection back in 2007. Essentials covers a wide range of styles from our classic Modal rib jersey to everything you need for newborns. Our Home collection in solid neutral tones. Cool jeans and classic shirts. Fine knit merino wool and luxurious cashmere. We also have your favorite outdoor styles: thermal clothing, base layers, hats, mittens and warm winter outerwear, Technical Outerwear.

Our Essentials styles can always be integrated into the season's collections because they are indispensable.

MarMar Copenhagen offers six annual collections. Two main collections; Spring/Summer & Autumn/Winter and four smaller collections: High Summer, two outerwear collections and the festive Celebration collection.

MarMar Copenhagen produces to order, thus minimizing overproduction. We do not carry large inventories in anticipation of higher sales. If you need to order clothes between the main collections, our Essentials covers most needs.

MarMar fibers and materials

From the very beginning in 2007, MarMar Copenhagen has focused on good, durable qualities. Natural fibers have been our focus, and we only use man-made fibers when it contributes to the product's function and durability.

In our collections, we use responsible fibers when they meet our high quality standards, complement the design and serve a function without compromising the durability and functionality of the product.

We define responsible fibers as fibers that help us minimize our environmental impact.

It is common to use chemicals in the production of clothing, and chemicals cannot be completely avoided, but we work with certified suppliers to ensure that the chemistry in our production is within legal limits. Our suppliers all comply with the EU regulation REACH .

The majority of our production is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, which is a guarantee that every part of a product is tested for harmful substances, while the production site also meets the requirements defined by OEKO-TEX.

For selected styles we use so-called deadstock fabrics, which are available from our suppliers' warehouses or at their local market. It makes good sense to include these qualities in the collections so that we can use what is already produced.

Among our certified materials are:

Certified organic cotton

Certified organic cotton & TENCEL™ Modal

TENCEL™ Modal & Cotton

VILOFT® Instead of wool

RWS-certified wool

ECOVERO™ Viscose

The five freedoms of animal welfare

Certified recycled polyester

Suppliers

Our strategy has always been to build and maintain healthy, long-term partnerships with certified suppliers. We know that they agree with our strategy and share the same goals for the future as we do. This is our intention in all our business endeavors.

Our suppliers are our partners and colleagues. Their desks are just further away – in a different time zone, and they are diverse in culture and tradition, but with a common mindset that binds us together.

Our suppliers are experts in what they do. That's why we choose to work with them. Each supplier has their own specialty. We produce our knitwear, outerwear and swimwear in China. Our lightweight woven qualities, such as cotton and viscose, are mainly made in India. Our jersey clothing, made of cotton/modal and viscose jersey, which makes up a very large part of our collections, is produced in Turkey, Ukraine and India.

Supplier certifications

It is particularly important for MarMar Copenhagen to cooperate with certified suppliers. We only enter into a cooperation if the certifications meet our requirements. We want to cooperate with responsible and certified suppliers who comply with either BSCI , SA8000 , SMETA or GOTS .

Factory facilities are inspected and visited again and again for re-audits. This means we trust that our products are manufactured in controlled and reliable conditions, where workers are offered decent working conditions, buildings meet limits, and child labor is not used. We care about the product, the people behind it, and the environment.

In addition to the clear rules for certifications, MarMar Copenhagen also requires suppliers to read and sign our Code of Conduct. We clearly highlight our statement on human rights, labor, environment and animal standards.

We work with suppliers who take responsibility for the environment and understand that production facilities can make a big difference. We all have a responsibility to take on for the future.

Transportation

Our warehouse is located in Denmark, where most items come in before being shipped to our customers. Some items are shipped directly from our suppliers to our distributors in China and the USA to minimize shipping.

MarMar Copenhagen produces approximately 70% of our production in Europe, 16% in China and 14% in India.

Production in Europe is transported directly by trucks. We work with transport companies, all of whom aim to reduce their CO2 impact by implementing green deliveries, electric or hybrid solutions for deliveries and route optimizations.

Webshop packaging

All packages from our webshop are shipped in 100% climate-neutral paper packaging. The packaging can be recycled for returns.

The paper packaging is made from Scandinavian wood and grown in FSC-certified® forests. The paper is produced in Scandinavian paper mills, where climate-friendly renewable energy is used. The product is FSC-certified and climate-compensated.
